Minnesota Winter Adventures: Ice Castle

Origami Owl Ice Castle Locket

This past weekend Dylan and I took a day trip down to the cities to visit the Ice Castle in Excelsior.

I had no idea this was even a thing! Earlier in the week, I had been scrolling through Instagram and saw a picture of an ice castle in Denver. I thought man that looks cool, I wonder if there’s something similar near me. I was pleasantly surprised when I googled “minnesota ice castle,” and discovered this!

I immediately told Dylan not to make any plans for the weekend, because I was already set on going. Excelsior is super close to Crown, and we were able to make plans to meet up with some college friends while we were down there.

The castle far exceeded my expectations. As a winter lover and big fan of snow, I knew I was going to like this experience. But I was not prepared for the architecture and engineering aspects of the castle. I was in awe of the sheer size and spent the afternoon marveling at the construction of the walls, towers, slides, and caves. And let’s talk about that sky for a second, doesn’t it look fake! We could not have asked for a more perfect day.

And as a fan of Frozen, I couldn’t say no to meeting the ice princesses:

Okay they weren’t quite Disney-level entertainment, but they were a nice addition to the castle.

The Ice Castle also offered ice slides, tunnels, an ice cave, photo ops, and a little concession stand.

I loved standing in the ice canyon and looking up at the giant icicles dangling above.

I also liked exploring the nooks and crannies of the structure.

And that was our little Saturday adventure, enjoying a perfect winter day in a castle made of ice. Who knew you could find one of life’s little charms through Instagram and a google search!

Oh and here’s one more little charm from the weekend:

Ice cream is ALWAYS a charm of life.
