The holidays are over and my house is a disaster. After two full weeks of baking, shopping, wrapping, and bouncing between five different family homes… my house is looking rough.
The decorations have to go away. All the decorations I bought on after Christmas clearance need to find a new home. My Christmas presents need to find their place in the house (hello Kitchen Aid Mixer and Instant Pot!). And overall, I just wasn’t great about keeping a tidy home during the month of December. AND SO, this January, I am putting myself up to a organization and cleaning challenge.
The rules:
Each day, I must pick a spot in the house to clear up, tidy up, clean up, or shape up in order to prevent me from throwing up (out of the overall overwhelmingness of my crazy little house)
Each day I must get rid of FIVE things. These things can be anything: big or small, significant or insignificant. I can do any combination of throw/recycle/donate with my five things. But the five things must leave the house in some way.
The goal:
To have a house that is tidier, more organized, and free of clutter. With my daily five routine, my house will be free of 155 items by the end of the month. WHAT? Hannah that’s insane! That’s what I thought at first too. But then I started actually doing it. I have found that the things I have been getting rid of are tiny insignificant things that were just laying around my house and getting in my way. Random pieces of mail I forgot send out, half empty cereal boxes, magazines I was never going to read, and so on, and so forth, and what have you. And so, after two days of my challenge, I am already feeling better about my house and excited to get more done. It’s kinda infectious once you start in one area, you don’t really want to stop!
The Results: (thus far)
And the next area to tackle:
I’ll check in again next week with some updates. Care to join me in this challenge? Let me know in the comments. Or show me your progress on Instagram using the hashtag #lifeslittlecharmsblog. I hope you find a few little charms during your daily five tidy ups!
