Weekend Recap: Brought to you by Valley Scare

Another busy weekend in the books.

I am always excited to add new charms to my locket. I am not always excited to try new experiences.

On Friday night I had plans with some college friends to do something none of us had ever done before….

A themed trivia night at a winery.

I know, it doesn’t sound like much. But it was a brand new experience taking place in a venue I don’t spend much time at. I was a little nervous about it. I didn’t have any idea what it was going to look like or how hard the trivia would be or what kind of people were going to be there.

In the end, it turned out to be more fun than I had anticipated. The trivia wasn’t too hard, we scored seats on a comfy couch, and though the people were a little weird, no one was too scary.

But my Saturday… it was filled with scary.

After a slow morning, we headed out to Shakopee to give our Washington friend a Minnesota theme park experience.

For the first time in my life, I decided I was brave enough to go to ValleyScare, ValleyFair’s annual spooky makeover.

Our day was filled with screams (of fear and joy) elicited by ValleyFair’s permanent monsters; the roller coasters. But as the sun went down, screams of fright were heard across the park as scare houses opened up and actors filled the streets.

The MaSCAREade was my favorite zone (probably because it was the least scary and the ladies had on pretty dresses)

Overall, the three of us had a very enjoyable day, despite the slightly chilly temperatures (notice us all wrapped up in our winter coats in the 40 degree weather). Our favorite houses included the Zombie High School and the Undertakers. I really believe there is no better way to catch up with friends than by hanging out in theme park queues. And getting scared half to death by a zombie viking with a foam ax might bring you a little closer too.

My favorite part of the evening was taking in the details of the themed houses’ sets and costumes. I did not enjoy the jump scares and overall creepiness of the actors. I don’t think I’d ever go back to ValleyScare as guest, but I would love to be on the design committee that brings the whole event into fruition. The details and stories that were told through the scare zones were incredible!

After a very interesting church service on Sunday morning, we continued our Sunday tradition of getting sushi. Recently, our sushi restaurant changed their menu, making our meals far too expensive. This weekend we took a risk and tried a new place. We were all pleasantly surprised by the new establishment and look forward to going again on my next visit. My weekend came to a close once I finished my third sushi roll. I said goodbye to my friends, and headed home. Another busy weekend in the books.
