Do you ever have just a meh day? Like nothing truly awful happens to you, but also nothing really goes your way. I had one of those days today.
It all started out with breakfast. I was out of both milk and bread. No cereal or toast for me. Oh well, I made myself some oatmeal. I microwaved it too long and it was too hot to eat. Then I realized I was running late for work. I decided I would just eat at the office. I picked up my burning hot bowl and started walking. By the time I made it to work, my oatmeal was one big lukewarm lump. Gross. I ate it anyway.
Then came time for lunch. All I had to eat was a Smuckers uncrustable PB&J sandwich and a bag of stale Flaming Hot Cheetos. Can you tell I haven’t been grocery shopping lately? Again, I ate it. But it wasn’t great.
I love food. So, to have two bad meals in one day can really put a damper on my mood. But I was looking forward to a good dinner made by a very loving friend, so my hopes were high.
Now here is where it all fell apart… literally.
My roommate has been doing laundry all week. While she was off at work, I decided to sneak one of my loads in. I got my clothes all washed up, but when I went to put them in the dryer, an entire load of wet laundry was still in there. I like to consider myself a good roommate, so I restarted my roommate’s load of sweatshirts so they would be warm and dry by the time she got home. But my laundry was still sitting wet and clean in the washer.
I loaded my wet clothes into my laundry basket and decided I would bring them to my parent’s house to dry. Easy fix. No big deal. I want to let it be known that my laundry basket has had a few cracks in it for awhile now, but it had been working just fine and honestly, I didn’t want to buy a new one.
So here I am, laundry basket on my hip, walking across my parent’s driveway, when the terrible awful happens. The entire laundry basket crumbled in my arms, leaving an entire two weeks worth of clean wet laundry strewn across the driveway.
What would you do if it happened to you?
I’ll tell you, I was not about to wash it all again. So I gathered it all up in my arms, brought it in the house and threw it into the dryer. If I have any pinecone bits or dirt smudges on my shirts this week, please don’t say anything.
Sometimes the charms of life are a little lackluster. Bummer meals and laundry disasters can leave you feeling a little unlucky. But days like today make the tiny charms that much better. I had cake for dessert tonight and it was really good. I don’t know if its because it was inherently good, or simply because everything else in my day was bad. Regardless, I’ll take that little charm.
